Born in 1951 in Paris, Henri Silberman, grew up in Brooklyn and began taking photographs with his first camera at age sixteen. Silberman has become famous for his black and white photography of the urban landscape. Cities have been his platform for his visual studies of everything from a bridge to a park to a cityscape with the widespread tableau of buildings reaching for the sky.
New York has be...see more »en Silberman's favorite locale with prints of all the important buildings like the Chrysler Building or Empire State Building to the Brooklyn Bridge or a shot of the Manhattan skyline. He creates photographs that resonant with feeling and a personal touch, taking them in daylight, fog or with all their night lights shining, taking them of the everyday culture and unique architectures. His work has been featured in movies and television productions.
He collaborated with Paul B. Janecyko on a book about haiku or Japanese poems that is illustrated with Silberman's photographs, titled Stone Bench in an Empty Park. The book is an exquisite collection of his photos celebrating the natural beauty that can be found on the streets of the city. His pictures invite the reader to see the beauty around them.
Silberman's photography can be found in private and corporate collections and exhibited at galleries and museums worldwide. Silberman continues to live and work at his studio in New York City.« see less
