Thomas McKnight was born in Lawrence, Kansas in 1941, but spent much of his childhood in Montreal, Canada, Washington, D.C. and New York City. He earned a BA from Wesleyan University and studied art history at Columbia University. McKnight is famous for the silkscreen technique used in his landscapes and serigraphs of exotic or tropical locations such as Greece, Venice, the Caribbean or Istanbul. He is known for his clean shapes and vivid colors that shout out the joy of living. He has exhibited in over two hundred fifty one-man shows throughout the United States, Europe and Japan. His prints have appeared in numerous television shows and movies, and magazine covers. Japan is a great fan of McKnight where he has received commissions for Japanese calendars, an Urban Fair project in Kobe and an earthquake relief poster. President and Mrs. Clinton commissioned him to create the White House Christmas card in 1994 and 1995. He was selected as official artist for the U.S. Constitution Bicentennial in 1988.
There have been six books published of McKnight's art, including two in Japan; the most recent being 'Voyage to Paradise'. In 1992, at the request of yachtsman Dennis Connor, he created two commemorative paintings for the America's Cup race.
McKnight and his wife, when they are not traveling, divide their time between their homes and studios in Florida and New York. His instantly recognizable work can be found in corporate and private collections, galleries and museums, and at retailers around the world.« see less
