Andres Gonzales was born and raised in San Diego, California. His father owns an ornamental iron and steel business that employs artisans from Southern California and Baja, Mexico. As a boy, he spent much of his free time helping his father and he displayed an early talent for designing the custom ironwork that was a specialty of his father's shop. Eventually, as a young man he began an appren...see more »ticeship at his father's shop where he learned to design and fabricate custom gates and other types of iron and steel sculpture. During this same period, he also began taking both academic and fine art classes at San Diego City Community College. It was at City College that his talent and passion for painting was nurtured by one of his drawing professors. Over time, the artist developed a style that merged his painting with his extensive experience working with iron and steel. His most recent imagery is a mature fusion of these two distinct forms of artistic expression. Andres Gonzales has shown his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in San Diego and Los Angeles. He continues to live and work in his native Southern California home and he still spends time at his father's shop.
