In 1987, Fabienne Arietti joined with an architect to create a furniture line called Babylon that became an award winning and successful endeavor. Her first love, however, is painting and she has developed a unique style reminiscent of the 'old masters'. She is devoted to the image and has infinite patience and perseverance, although she claims she constantly fights an inner struggle for perfection. Her method utilizes crushed minerals and organic pigments to make her colors. She then applies layer upon layer of glaze to transparencies, usually between 30 to 50 coats or more. This results in enameled color that resembles 'old' varnish.
She is known for her paintings of exotic animals, such as zebras, elephants, or lions, capturing the inner spirit of her subjects. Other important work includes ethnic portraits of African people in native headdress and garb, while a completely different look is her urban architecture paintings, such as Times Square or Washington Bridge.
Her paintings are in galleries around the world including Paris, New York, Miami, and Venice.« see less
