"Born in California in 1956, Christian Riese Lassen moved with his family to Hawaii's island of Maui when he was 11. The tropical beauty of the ocean and the breathtaking scenery awakened his natural talent and his passion for the preservation of the environment. Lassen had no formal art training, except what was offered in local schools, and what he learned from his artistic mother. He ...see more »first gained international fame, however, as a surfer, not a painter. Because of his athletic abilities, he starred in many television shows, magazines, movies, and billboards. When he was young, Lassen began selling artwork for t-shirts, then started selling his paintings in a small art shop in Lahaina. Now considered one of the leading marine artists of all time, his technique has evolved over time to reflect impressionism, pop art, surrealism, and a style uniquely his own that he calls Illusory Realism. Working in oils, enamels and acrylics, he is a master of detail with paintings that appear luminescent and capture the spirit of the subject. Acclaimed for his seascapes, his name is also found on an astonishing number of other products including sculptures, greeting cards, puzzles, and clothing. Lassen is also published in several books: 'The Art of Lassen', which tells the history of his work; a children's book, 'Treasures of the Sea'; and 'Lassen Island' which is about his interest in the sea. Another book titled 'The Secret Path' is available at Lassen Galleries. Lassen also has had a traveling exhibition of over 85 of his paintings that have toured the world. An avid environmentalist, Lassen founded SeaVision Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting environmental issues. A portion of his sales goes to support this foundation. He starred in a movie called, 'I Am The Earth', a fantasy with an environmental message that premiered at the United Nations in 1998. He is an international speaker on environmental issues and has debuted a music album titled 'Turn The Tide'. Christian Riese Lassen is one of the commercially most successful artists of all time with over 70 licensees worldwide. Over the years, he has appeared in numerous television shows and stars in a weekly show in Japan titled Lassen Hour. Lassen recently appeared in Las Vegas to introduce some of his latest work with "The Illumination Suite" and the "Lassen Panoramic Collection 2006". He appears at regularly scheduled art shows throughout the world. His artwork can be found on his website, in galleries, in corporate and private collections, and through art retailers around the world."« see less

"As an watercolorist I have found ArtPassions.com a helpful place to buy both art supplies and frames. The employees are all knowledgeable and helpful as they are familiar with the products they sell. The frames are of good quality, priced reasonably and there are many styles of frames to choose from. I have entered many competitions and the custom work they do always gives a professional look to my paintings."
