Leonetto Cappiello revolutionized the commercial poster with strong vibrant colors as with this man painting a staircase. If you have to call Cappiello's works something that sounds profound - call them 'French Posterism'. His stark red, white and black poster titled "Nitrolian", though having far less significance than DuChamp's "Nude Descending the Staircase," nevertheless, has Cappiello's nude about to step into wet paint - the meaning of which is anybody's guess. But there's no doubt about Cappiello's sense of humor. His posters are either pure fun, or poking fun. Whether creating an advertisement for fashion, liquor or food, Cappiello injected laughter into every image he made. So no matter where you hang it, "Nitrolian" will always be good for laughs.
