Rough pencil drawing and loose water color compose the elements of August Rodin's "Couple Saphique Assis". Two women embrace on a faintly pink cushioned bench, drawn with special attention to the grain in the wooden legs and the folds in the fabric of the cushions. One of the women is dressed in a rich purple gown, and the other, seated on her lap, is nude. The two are painted with the same pool of orange paint, so that their skin, faces and hair are enveloped in the same warm hue. The background is faintly blue, serving to heighten the warmth of color of the featured figures in the painting. A contemporary presentation of classic forms, "Couple Saphique Assis" will lend itself to virtually any space.
